Treatment
Due to the many causes of infertility we offer a wide variety of fertility treatments, including the most advanced treatments.
The most common treatments are medical treatment, insemination, in vitro fertilisation, and micro manipulation combined with IVF (also called ICSI). Below are summarised explanations of the treatments offered at Nordica Fertility Centres.
IUI
Intra Uterine Insemination is a painless treatment. Semen is inseminated into the woman’s uterus, where fertilisation can take place. This method is normally used when semen quality is low or when the woman has endometriosis or hostile cervix, so the semen has trouble passing through to the fallopian tube.
OI
Ovulation induction is used when the woman has irregular or abnormal menstruation and ovulation. It is a medical treatment that causes the woman’s hormonal system to return to regular and normal menstruation and ovulation.
In Vitro Fertilisation – IVF
IVF is a method where the woman’s eggs are removed from the ovary to be fertilised with the male’s semen in the laboratory. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus for normal growth. This method is used in cases where semen quality or quantity is low and/or the woman has blocked tubes, is not ovulating, or in cases of unexplained infertility.
During IVF treatment the woman is stimulated to produce more and better eggs than in normal cycles, thus increasing the chances of a successful fertilisation. The male delivers a semen sample the same day the woman’s eggs are removed. The eggs are then fertilised later that day. When the fertilised eggs have cleaved they can be transferred into the uterus.
ICSI
ICSI follows the same principals as IVF. In ICSI a single semen cell is removed and inseminated directly into the egg in the laboratory. This treatment is used in cases where the male semen quality or quantity is very low and IVF is not possible.
